The purpose of a concealer is in the word itself: this make-up product conceals and conceals. But how does concealer actually work? This liquid or cream product has a high pigmentation, so it can easily cover imperfections and imperfections in your skin. With the right make-up sponge or brush you can do this in a subtle and natural way. And what can you use concealer for or what is the purpose of a cancealer? With a concealer you hide dark circles under your eyes, redness or veins under your skin, pimples, pigmentation and other imperfections in your face.
For small imperfections, it is best to choose a concealer that closely matches your own skin color. If you apply concealer under the eyes, it should be about 2 shades lighter than your own skin. However, some imperfections are more noticeable than others, so you cannot always easily cover them up with a skin-colored concealer. There is also a solution for this: color correcting.
What is color correcting?
Color correcting is a make-up technique in which contrasting colors are used to neutralize imperfections in the complexion. You can do color correcting with a CC cream, but if you prefer to apply your favorite foundation, or want to get rid of different kinds of imperfections, you can also do color correcting with a concealer. It is important to blend a color correcting concealer well with a sponge or brush, so that your foundation can be applied over it naturally. We have listed all shades for color correcting below, but that does not mean that you should use them all, or that you should always do this. Color correcting is mainly intended for imperfections that you cannot neutralize with a regular concealer or foundation.
Which color has which effect in color correcting?
Color correcting works according to the color wheel: contrasting, or complementary, colors. If you suffer from redness, you can apply a green concealer over it, because this is a contrasting color. To get rid of dark circles under your eyes, the color you use will depend on your skin tone. If you have a light skin tone, go for a light salmon pink color to get rid of these bluish imperfections. A medium skin tone is more likely to require a peachy concealer, and for dark skin, you work away dark circles with an orange concealer. If your skin has an olive-colored undertone, a yellow concealer is the solution for dark circles. Finally, there are also the lilac and lavender concealers. These are useful if you suffer from a faded color, which can happen in winter. You can also hide yellowish pigmentation spots with this.
Contours with concealer
Concealer is a versatile product. In addition to covering up and color correcting, you can also contour with it! If you like a subtle contour, then you do this better with powder, but for an intensely sculpted look you better look for the liquid and cream-shaped products. Concealer is therefore perfect for contouring. For this you will need concealers in about three shades: a regular concealer, a highlighting concealer, and a contouring concealer. Make sure you know the undertone of your skin as this is very important when selecting the right concealer! Just like you, this one should have a yellow, neutral or pink undertone.
The regular concealer should match your skin tone, and use it first to hide any imperfections, such as blemishes or scars. You also select one concealer that is two to three shades lighter than your own skin, and one that is two to three shades darker. Apply the light concealer under the eyes, on the bridge of your nose, on the chin and the middle of your forehead. The dark concealer, or contouring concealer, is applied under your cheekbones, close to your hairline, and on the sides of your nose and chin. After each step, make sure you blend the product well with a sponge or brush! A good setting spray or setting powder will keep your contour intact all day long.
